Boom overhead: rethinking podcast audio at BlackBerry QNX
Two episodes of MotorTrend's InEVitable podcast in a day, and one audio experiment that beat the setup we normally trust.

Sound is half of what an audience actually experiences, and it is the half nobody notices until it is wrong. We record it properly on the day, on set, with the right microphone in the right place. Then we build the rest of it to picture.
Sound built to picture for lifestyle and product films, and clean dialogue recorded on location for interviews, corporate shoots, and events. Recorded and finished by the same crew, from our base in Ottawa.
Product and beauty films live or die on their sound, and none of it exists until someone builds it. Every footstep, every fabric move, every pour is chosen, placed, and mixed against the cut.

We built the set for MotorTrend's InEVitable podcast at BlackBerry QNX and used the time to try a handheld recorder overhead as a boom. It read more open and more natural than the lavaliers we normally reach for.

Boom mic, lav, or both, chosen to best suit the production and space. We use broadcast-quality microphones recording into multi-track recorders. With wind filters, shock mounts, and rigging on hand so we are prepared for any scenario.
Every element is placed to picture and balanced across the mix. Footsteps, textures, ambience, music, dialogue, all coming together in a mix that leaves your audience wanting more.
You receive the finished mix as a sound file and laid to picture. If your team needs the stems or versions, let us know and we can plan our session in that way.

I've had the pleasure of working with Capital Arts Productions on many projects, and every time has been fantastic. The team is friendly, knowledgeable, well-organized, and very well equipped. Their attention to detail and professionalism make every event run smoothly and look great.
Working with Zach and his team at Capital Arts to capture our 2026 Corporate Kickoff was a great decision. Zach was responsive, professional, and detail-oriented. The finished videos and photos were high quality, and the ease with which the AV production was managed made our internal team's job much easier.
Our company has hired Zach to shoot our events (video and photo) for almost 10 years and he consistently delivers exceptional work. He is super talented and continues to amaze us year after year with what he produces. Always punctual and quick to deliver. 10/10 recommend.

Broadcast-grade location sound and post-production capability, from interview to live event.
Every demo in the player is one of these microphones on a job.
Sometimes, but it's never as good as it would have sounded if it were recorded properly. Noise, room reverb, and a microphone in the wrong position can be improved, but information that was not captured or any distinctly destructive audio qualities are usually not recoverable. If the shoot has not happened yet, the cheapest fix is making sure the audio capture is done properly.
Yes. We regularly provide location audio on a shoot that someone else is directing. We can provide our own microphones, recorders, and accessories, or work with the equipment your team is using.
A single finished mix in .WAV format plus a reference copy set to picture is the standard delivery. If your team needs the elements separately, let us know and we can export multi-track stems.
Yes, and we frequently do podcasts this way. The client provides a location or books a studio, or we can book one for you. Our team builds the set if needed, then deploys multiple cameras, lighting, and microphones, dynamic mics, lavs, and boom arms are all part of the kit.
Typical turnaround on edited and polished 30-60 minute podcasts run from 5-7 business days.
Yes, we have access to a variety of copyright free music and sound libraries as well as the network to license commercial music tracks. If you fall in love with a song, chances are we can get the rights to use it.
